Education: Graduated Lorain High School in 1968. Received Associates degree in Police Science from LCCC in 1977. Attended numerous police training schools and seminars to enhance law enforcement knowledge.

Occupation:Law Enforcement Officer over 31 years, served as Lorain County Sheriff for last 4 years.

Training and Experience:Lorain Police Officer for 13 years, Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. Worked as a Narcotics Detective, regular Detective Bureau, Jail Administrator, Law Enforcement Director. A graduate of National Sheriff’s Institute in 2002.
Response to Question:Balancing the running of the Lorain County Jail and maintaining proper Law Enforcement Protection throughout the (18) townships of Lorain County 24 hours, 7 days a week. This is while remaining fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars. The jail is a small city in itself. We can maintain 422 inmates, as correction officers guard the inmates. We operate an around the clock record room, we have maintenance personnel, nursing, and medical personnel, we contract with a Doctor, Physicians Assistant, Dentist, and a Psychologist. The County Jail annual budget in 2004 will be approximately 10.1 million dollars. The Law Enforcement Division consists of road patrol deputies, community policing officers, a DARE officer, a School Resource Officer, detectives, an evidence officer, communication officers, and command staff. The law enforcement division patrolled over 1 million miles of Lorain County roads in 2003 and their annual budget will be approximately 5.8 million in 2004.
