Response to Question 1: We should upgrade our infrastructure. The one service that government provides which private enterprise cannot is support for community infrastructure. Without wellmaintained roads and utilities, commerce cannot thrive. Government must make it easier, not harder, to succeed in business. We can do that by keeping our infrastructure in excellent condition. County government must quit competing with the private sector. The solution to all economic problems is NOT to grow county government bigger. We can’t afford the higher taxes that this “empire building” will cost us. We must help the private sector to grow. Finally, quit studying Lorain County to death. Another study is not going to help us find our way. Let’s look at what we have already done and really listen to what our community has been trying to tell us and implement a plan to move forward.

Response to Question 2: :  The key to balancing the needs of the urban and rural portions of Lorain County is to be familiar with them both.  An effective commissioner needs to really understand both types of community.  I have that understanding.  For most of my 50 years, I have lived in the rural part of the county.  But each day of my working life, I have contributed to the economic success of our cities.  For more that 30 years, I have earned my livelihood from the cities.  I know that the lifeblood of our community is the successful blend of economic growth in both the industrial and agricultural sectors.  We must listen to both groups.  They have much in common, but their differences must be honored and respected.

I have experience in the legislative process, budgetary issues, roads, utilities, working with people to get things accomplished. I have a secretarial & a real estate background.

Response to Question 1: A task force needs to be created to go to our current businesses to find out what their needs are in order to keep them in our area but more importantly to help them expand. I am currently working on an economic development plan which includes looking at other Ohio counties that have been hit hard by the recession to see what they have done to recover. I also believe we need to do a better job of promoting the county in order to attract new businesses into our area.

Response to Question 2: As commissioner I will listen to the needs of all residents of the county.  I understand the challenges facing the urban areas from the experiences I have had as a three term city council representative in Lorain.  The rural areas of our county are facing a lot of growth.  They deserve a voice that will listen to their needs.
